Advanced Kata - Twisting Horse

  1. Attacker #1 from the front throws a right punch: Step out with left foot into a horse stance, block right punch with left hand & right horizontal chop to stomach, step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, grab groin with right hand & rip out, right uppercut to face.

  2. Attacker #2 approaches from the left front to throw a right punch: Block right punch with left hand, step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance & right side palm to the chest, step back with left foot into a horse stance & right horizontal elbow strike to head, right palm to groin (with left hand to your left ear), left palm to the groin of attacker #1 (with right hand to your right ear), right foot to attention.

  3. Attacker #3 from the front throws a right punch: Step out with left foot into a horse stance, block right punch with left hand & right hand horizontal chop to stomach, step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, grab groin with right hand & rip out.

  4. Attacker #1 throws a right punch from behind you: Block right punch with right outward block, palm facing up & poke backward with right hand (over your right shoulder) to the eyes.

  5. Attacker #2 from the left throws a right punch: Step with right foot into a horse stance facing attacker, block right punch with left hand and grab wrist, right horizontal slash to the eyes, attacker attempts a right front kick: with left hand pull down on attacker’s right arm (essentially thwarting the kick). Attacker throws a left undercut punch: Block undercut punch with right hand, right poke to the eye, step with right foot into a horse stance (facing the front).

  6. Attacker #3 throws a right punch: Remaining in horse stance block right punch with left hand & right poke to the eyes.

  7. Attacker #1 throws a right punch from the left front: Step towards attacker with right foot into a kenpo stance & block right punch with left hand & grab wrist, right elbow strike to chest & claw to the face, twist left into a side horse stance & grab groin with right hand & rip out (bringing your right hand to your stomach).

  8. Attacker #2 from behind you throws a left punch: Step back towards attacker with right foot into a side horse stance & block left punch with right upward block, circle arm counter-clockwise (towards your face) & then back fist to attackers chest.

  9. Attacker #3 holds a knife in each hand and attacks with a right-handed knife thrust at your belly: Step forward with right foot towards attacker (into a kenpo stance), hook the right-handed knife with left hand (clockwise) & right horizontal palm to chest, attacker #3 attacks with a left-handed knife thrust at your belly: hook the left-handed knife with right hand (counter-clockwise) & left vertical palm to face, cover back with the right foot into a horse stance.

  10. Attacker #1 from the front throws a right punch: Step back with right foot into a side horse stance, with a circular clockwise motion with both hands, grab attackers right wrist & arm pull attacker in front of you, right vertical punch to the face (coming up underneath attacker’s right arm),  step to the right with the right foot into a deep kenpo stance, raise right hand to your right ear & left outward chop to attacker’s throat.

  11. Attacker #2 throws a right punch: Bring right foot towards left foot into a cat stance, trap right punch between your left hand & right inward block, right vertical punch to the face, right front kick to the groin step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance & right palm to the face.

  12. Attacker #3 throws a right punch and right front kick: Step back with the right foot into a “crouching kenpo stance” (your right foot is closer to the left foot than with a normal kenpo stance & your right knee is bent towards the floor), block right punch with right hand, twist to the right into a side horse & hook the right kick with left hand, holding the attacker’s leg, cross left leg behind right leg and turn 180 degrees counterclockwise into a side horse & right back knuckle to attacker’s leg (just above the knee), step back with left foot into a horse stance facing the front, raise your right hand palm up fingers pointing forward, lower your left hand (palm down) to cover your groin.

  13. Attacker #1, from the left side, throws a right punch: Cross left foot behind right foot, block right punch with left hand & grab right wrist with your left hand, twist counterclockwise into a horse stance (as you pull the attacker's right arm towards you), right side palm to the face, right horizontal elbow strike to the head, right back-knuckle to the face.

  14. Attacker #2, from the front, attempts a right front kick: Cross left foot behind right foot and hook the kick with left hand. Right dragon fist to the groin and up the body as you twist counterclockwise into a horse stance (facing the front). Right fist comes to left hand (i.e., head smash).

  15. Attacker #3 grabs your lapel with left hand: Step back with left foot into a kenpo stance & break grab with right uppercut dragon fist to attacker’s left forearm, attacker throws a right punch: step back with the right foot into a kenpo stance & block right punch with left inward dragon fist to forearm, attacker throws left and right punches: step back with left foot into a kenpo stance & block left & right punches with downward right & left dragon fists, right dragon fist to the eye.

  16. Attacker #1 (from behind you) throws a right punch: Twist left, cross left foot behind right foot (effectively ducking under the punch) & left hammer fist to the groin, open hand (with fingers extended) & step out to the right with right foot into a horse stance.

  17. Attacker #2 (facing you) throws left and right punches: Step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, block left punch with right horizontal crane, block right punch with right side palm, right vertical poke to the eyes.

  18. Attacker #3 (from your left) throws right and left punches: Twist left into a horse stance, block right punch with left hand, trap left punch between left hand & right inward block. (continued) Attacker #2 attempts a left front kick: Remaining in a horse stance, block left kick with downard right hand & chop to the groin, grab groin with right hand and rip out.
    17. (continued) Attacker #3 attempts a knee: Trap the knee between left hand & right downward hammer fist, check the knee with left palm on top of knee (with fingers pointed to the right), right vertical punch to the face.

  19. Attacker #1 (from the left side) throws a right punch: Step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance & trap right punch between left hand & right inward block, right vertical punch to the face, right side palm to the chest, twist left into a side horse & right hammer fist to the groin, right vertical punch to the face.

  20. Attacker #2 (from the front left side) throws a right punch: Step forward with right foot into a side horse stance & block right punch with left hand & grab wrist, right horizontal elbow strike to head, twist right into a kenpo stance, right side palm to chest, step back with the right foot into a horse stance, bring left hand to center (over your right fist)

  21. Attacker #3 (in front of you) shuffles from right to left: Following the attacker, cross right foot in front of left & step out with left foot into a horse stance, attacker shuffles to right and throws a right punch: cross left foot behind right foot, block right punch with left hand, right reverse punch to the chest.

  22. Attacker #1 (behind you) throws a right punch: Twist left counter-clockwise into a horse stance facing attacker #1, block right punch with left hand, right reverse punch to the chest, right back kick to the chest of attack #3 (behind you) step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, twist left & left spinning hook kick to the head of attacker #1, ending in a horse stance.

  23. Attacker #2 attacks with a right-handed club: Step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, block right club with left hand & grab wrist, right hand on the shoulder, right side chop to the neck, bring left foot next to right foot, grab right shoulder with right hand & right knee to stomach, step back with the right foot into a kenpo stance & pull attacker down, right downward hammer fist to the back of the neck, right side kick to the ribs, bring right foot next to left foot step out with left foot into a horse stance.

  24. Attacker #3 attacks from the left with a knife (thrust at your belly): Step back with left foot into a kenpo stance & simultaneous left crane to the front (at shoulder height) & right crane to the side (at shoulder height). Twist to the left into a cat stance (with left foot forward), hook the knife to the left with your left hand & right hand (in a crane, with fingers pointing at the attacker) slash to the eyes. Attacker withdraws knife and thrusts down again at your belly, block the knife with your left hand, fingers pointed down, right hand rips back across the face, right back write/finger snap to the face.

  25. Attacker #1 (from the left) throws a right front kick and a right punch: Twist left into a horse stance, block right front kick with back of left hand (with fingers pointed down),  & block right punch with right hand, left horizontal chop to the throat, right poke to the eyes, right back kick to attacker #2, step forward with right foot towards attacker #1, turn 180 degrees counter-clockwise (to face attacker #1) & end in a kenpo stance with your right foot forward.

  26. Attacker #2 (from the front) throws a right punch: Block right punch with a left outward crescent kick, place left hand on right side of attacker’s face & right inward (i.e. counter-clockwise) crescent kick to the head, cross right foot in front of left foot in a crouching stance, right hammer fist to the groin, right vertical punch to the face.

  27. Attacker #3 attempts a right front kick: Twist right 180 degrees into a kenpo stance with left leg forward, block the right front kick by hooking the leg to the left, right reverse punch to the leg (above the knee), right front kick to the groin, step forward with right foot into a kenpo stance, right horizontal palm to the face, right hand grab behind the neck & twist to the left (taking the attacker to the ground) lower your right knee to the ground, right reverse punch to the face, stand up turning clockwise, and step to the rear with your right foot into a deep kenpo stance facing forward, raise your right hand in a crane (with fingers pointed straight down) to shoulder height, and lower your left hand into a crane (with fingers pointed to the left) just outside of your left knee, step with your right foot to the front into a horse stance.
